According to Clarkson, global orders for new ships in August stood at 2.05 million revised gross tonnes (71 vessels), down 30% from last year and 46% from the previous month. Among them, the new orders received by Chinese shipping companies in August were 1.68 million revised gross tons (60 ships), ranking first in the world with a market share of 82%. South Korean shipping companies placed 270,000 revised gross tons (6 ships) of new orders in August, ranking second with a 13% market share. Only a month later, Chinese shipping companies once again surpassed South Korea and successfully reached the top.

In the first eight months of this year, global new ship orders totaled 26.81 million revised gross tonnes (1,038 vessels), down 22% from 34.45 million revised gross tonnes (1,365 vessels) in the same period last year. In the same period, the order volume of Korean shipping companies was 7.25 million revised gross tons (161 ships), with a market share of 27%, down 42% from last year; The order volume of Chinese shipping companies was 15.65 million revised gross tons (654 vessels), with a market share of 58%, down 2% from last year.

As of the end of August, global orders for new ships stood at 121.29 million revised gross tons, up 900,000 revised gross tons from the previous month. Among them, the orders held by Chinese shipping companies were 57.02 million revised gross tons (47%), and the orders held by South Korean shipping companies were 39.86 million revised gross tons (33%). Compared with last year, China's handheld orders increased by 14%, and South Korea's increased by 8%; On a month-on-month basis, South Korea added 590,000 revised gross tonnes and China added 280,000 revised gross tonnes.

At the end of August, the Clarkson new shipbuilding Index stood at 173.56 points, up 11.44 points (7%) from a year earlier. By ship type, liquefied natural gas (LNG) carriers cost $265 million, very large crude oil carriers (VLCCS) cost $126 million, and very large container ships (22,000-24,000 TEU) cost $226 million.
