Recently, the world's first hydrogen-powered cruise ship, "Viking Libra", was launched at the Ancona Shipyard of Fincantieri in Italy. It is scheduled to be delivered in 2027.

The ship is 239.00 meters in length and has a total tonnage of 53,400 tons. As the world's first hydrogen-powered cruise ship, it adopts a hybrid power system of liquefied hydrogen and fuel cells, enabling zero-emission navigation and suitable for operations in environmentally sensitive areas. Its propulsion system can generate up to 6 megawatts of power. The cruise ship also uses a containerized hydrogen loading and storage system, effectively addressing supply chain limitations. The polymer electrolyte membrane (PEM) fuel cell system equipped on it was specially designed for cruise ship operations by IFM, a subsidiary of Fincantieri focusing on advanced fuel cell technology.
