The shipbuilding and Marine engineering industry in Nantong has reached a new peak. According to the latest statistics from the Nantong Maritime Safety Administration, in 2024, a total of 119 newly built ships and Marine engineering products successfully left the river in the Nantong area, an increase of 32% compared with the same period last year. The total output value for the year even exceeded 200 billion yuan, setting a new historical record.

As an important base for China's shipbuilding and Marine engineering industry, Nantong has successfully promoted the transformation of the shipbuilding and Marine engineering industry towards high-end, intelligent and green development in recent years through a series of innovative measures. A set of data provides supporting evidence for it: Last year, the total tonnage of various types of ships and Marine engineering products in Nantong was nearly 4 million yuan. Among them, high-tech, high-value-added and special-purpose ships and Marine engineering products accounted for as high as half, including the world's largest 24,000 TEU container ship, the world's largest tonnage FPSO, and the country's first large-scale FLNG facility, etc. These achievements fully demonstrate the strong development momentum and outstanding innovation strength of Nantong's shipbuilding and Marine engineering industry.

The scale of Nantong's shipbuilding and Marine engineering industries accounts for one tenth and one fourth of the national total respectively. Its high-tech shipbuilding and Marine engineering equipment have even ranked among the national advanced manufacturing clusters. At present, the key shipbuilding enterprises in Nantong City have orders scheduled until the end of 2026, with full production tasks.
